POSITIONING LAFAYETTE AS A STEM LEADER #
The STEM fields drive innovation, promote scientific literacy, and spark American competitiveness. They lead to lifesaving medicines, keep our roads and bridges intact, and inform how we purify the very water we drink and air we breathe.
With its liberal arts tradition, hands-on learning, intimate mentorship, and robust research opportunities, Lafayette is the model for modern STEM education.
SPURRING INTELLECTUAL DISCOURSE #
The Rockwell Integrated Science Center is designed for how today’s students learn—collaboratively, 24/7, inside and outside the classroom. With movable walls and modular design, the building will adapt to accommodate new technology, varying group sizes, and diverse educational and research experiences. Faculty members and students will gather in the center’s public spaces, sharing ideas that prompt discovery.
A hub for entrepreneurial education, the RISC will host design competitions, workshops, entrepreneur-in-residence programs, and innovation and maker spaces.
DIVERSITYING STEM EDUCATION #
The new Daniel and Heidi Hanson ’91 Center for Inclusive STEM Education will not only affirm Lafayette’s commitment to the sciences. It will address the pressing national need to recruit more women and underrepresented minorities to these crucial fields, enabling their success and positioning Lafayette as a best practice resource.
