The ISC embodies Lafayette’s commitment to sustainability. It will boast an energy consumption benchmark far below that of peer science buildings. In keeping with its LEED Gold certification, the building will feature a broad array of energy-saving innovations.
LIVING LABORATORY: Students will get an up-close look at the inner workings of a state-of-the-art green building as they place temperature and humidity sensors around the ISC, monitor water and energy cycles, and model airflow and energy efficiency.
A SMART INVESTMENT: With modular rooms and movable walls and furniture, the ISC will not become obsolete or require an expensive renovation as soon as new technologies or learning configurations emerge. Even the building’s aesthetic—concrete floors, exposed ceilings, and writing surfaces covering the walls—exemplifies its practicality. By design, the ISC will remain relevant and nimble.
